UF Harrell Medical Education Building

The Harrell Medical Education Building is a new four story, 94,300 gross square feet building that will support the College of Medicine. The building will include innovative teaching laboratories and support facilities which respond to the latest trends toward small group learning and collaborative learning areas, the use of simulators and standardized patients for professional development and assessment, state of the art information technology, and access to information in a wireless environment.

The new facility will also house the H. James Free M.D. Center for Primary Care Education and Innovation creating a location for integration and program development for all primary care educational activities that occur in the College of Medicine. The simulation and clinical skills components will meet accreditation requirements for residency training programs and the other health science colleges.

Moses Engineering served as the 3rd party commissioning agent on this project. Moses Engineering provided overall direction of the commissioning process during the design, construction, and post construction phase.

A final report was developed to document the Cx process and results. A systems manual was developed to assist the facility management staff with regard to maintenance and re-testing efforts.

Moses Engineering commissioned the following systems:

  • HVAC systems (including all supply, exhaust, chilled water, steam and control elements)
  • Simulation clinical laboratories
  • Electrical power systems (emergency and normal power),
  • Lighting and Lighting Controls
  • Building Envelope
  • Energy Recovery systems
