UF Pathogens Electrical Feeders

Moses Engineering provided design and construction administration of the extension of two new 23kV circuits from Progress Energy provided switches adjacent to Gainesville Substation to the Pathogens area where they terminate to SF6 style switchgear in a new switchyard. This project also included a new 23kV circuit to Substation #6 from the new Pathogens area switchyard. The project provides primary selective service to the Pathogens area facilities as well as a master plan for two more 23kV circuits and SF6 switches (four total) from the Progress Energy switches.

The SF6 switchgear were custom designed to fit CTs and PTs inside the switchgear enclosure while also being above grade level. This was required as part of the SCADA portion of the project.

This project will support significant new and future buildings planned for this area of campus. Estimated totals for the full master plan build-out of the area are in excess of 30MVA. In addition to concrete encased duct-bank, the project included directional boring under sensitive wetlands to minimize environmental impacts. Coordination with several concurrent major UF projects as well as future major projects was required to master plan and design the 23kV system expansion.
