This 120,000 sqft LEED Platinum facility houses the UF Institute on Aging, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and an array of other research departments and clinical programs, as well as state-of-the-art conference, training and reception areas.

The facility includes two wings with a connecting hub on the east side. This central organizing element contains a two story glass-walled atrium-lobby with an open-air communicating stair, two multi-purpose rooms, and building service areas. The central building hub is placed north-south to connect the two phase components and allow for convenient pedestrian circulation from the parking structure. Administrative, office, and support spaces for staff and researchers are accommodated on the second through fifth floors. The design establishes outdoor gathering places that are extensions of those within the interior space. The building service loading and receiving area is screened and located on the north-east side facing the parking structure.

Moses and Associates (M&A) served as the 3rd party commissioning agent on this project. M&A provided overall direction of the commissioning process during the design, construction, and post construction phase. A final report was developed to document the Cx process and results. A systems manual was developed to assist the facility management staff with regard to maintenance and re-testing efforts.   Scope include 1 year of post-warranty quarterly inspection services.

M&A commissioned the following systems:

  • HVAC systems (including all supply, exhaust, chilled water, hot water and control elements)
  • Laboratory BSL2 laboratories
  • Underfloor air systems
  • Heat Pump Chilled Water Regeneration System
  • Electrical power systems (emergency and normal power)
