This project included an infrastructure assessment and a phased comprehensive renovation of a four story, 165,000 square foot chemistry, biology and geology laboratory building. The building houses both teaching and research laboratories as well as animal housing. M&A is the prime design professional for this project which included extensive lab casework replacement and laboratory renovations, ADA corrections, new HVAC systems, fire sprinklers, fire alarm, as well as supporting plumbing and electrical renovations.
Phasing
All renovations have been scheduled around research and teaching activities. A total of 23 projects have been accomplished over the last five years. These projects include: Auditorium replacement, organic research labs, organic and inorganic teaching labs, TEM labs, new faculty research labs, vivarium HVAC renovations, a new zebra fish facility, central penthouse air handling unit replacement, central fume exhaust system additions, 1.5 MW generator addition and electrical power upgrade and boiler plant replacement.
M&A provided overall direction of the commissioning process during the design, construction, and post construction phase for most of the renovation projects. A final report was developed to document the Cx process and results.
