This is 36,000 SF, four story addition that includes a new mechanical penthouse. The facility provides for collaborative research needs, including a human functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) laboratory suite, BSL 2 wet labs, TEM/SEM suites, vivarium research and vivarium holding rooms. This new facility provides state-of-the-art laboratories where scientists and physicians from across the University can converge to ask some of the most pressing questions in modern science.

At the Owner’s request, M&A served as the prime consultant, coordinating all architectural, structural, civil and landscape architecture consultants, as well as serving as LEED Administrator and lead commissioning agent. In a more traditional role, M&A also designed all MEPF systems, successfully satisfying NIH requirements for redundancy and design mandates within budget.

M&A provided overall direction of the commissioning process during the design, construction, and post construction phase. A final report was developed to document the Cx process and results.

M&A commissioned the following systems:

  • HVAC systems (including all supply, exhaust,      chilled water, heating hot water control elements)
  • Solar hot water system
  • Energy recovery systems
  • New hot       water boiler system
  • Laboratory BSL2 laboratories
