General Project Description

This project involved an infrastructure assessment and a phased comprehensive renovation of a four-story, 165,000 square foot chemistry, biology and geology laboratory building. The building houses both teaching and research laboratories as well as animal housing. Moses & Associates (M&A) is the prime professional for this project which includes extensive lab casework replacement and laboratory renovations, ADA corrections, new HVAC systems, fire sprinklers, fire alarm, as well as supporting plumbing and electrical renovations.  

The renovations included completely new HVAC systems, fume exhaust systems, fire protection, ceilings, lighting, floors, painting, new casework and space remodeling. A new 10,000 Btuh boiler plant installation and a 290,000 cfm penthouse air handling unit replacement was required. A new EMCS.DDC control system and variable volume lab, office and classroom controls were designed to reduce energy consumption.

All renovations have been scheduled around research and teaching activities. A total of 25 projects have been accomplished over the last five years. These projects include: Auditorium replacement, organic research labs, organic and inorganic teaching labs, TEM labs, new faculty research labs, vivarium HVAC renovations, a new zebra fish facility, central penthouse air handling unit replacement, central fume exhaust system additions, 1.5 MW generator addition and electrical power upgrade and boiler plant replacement.
